The two comrades of the Cuban education were in a hurry, as on 2 February 1981 home on the Upper Lake Road 66 entered in Berlin. They handed the German counterparts of the Stasi a wish list of materials and requested the appointment until 17 to get February 1981.

The Stasi officers of Division 26 and the Operative-Technical Sector (OTS) secured to the compañeros an immediate review and possible deployment. It was about the "creation of an operational-technical and secured space for the Cuban State Security in the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in East Berlin" .1

This should have been no exception. The operational group of the Cuban secret police, a further breakdown of the Interior (MININT) was and still is, maintained close links with the Stasi. Specifically, it was about a room on the 4th Floor of the Cuban Embassy at Berlin in Berlin-Pankow, who was to be equipped for the secret police duties of some Caribbean "diplomats" better and safer.

Many Cuban agents seized the diplomatic immunity as a cover for their "political operative" actions in East and West Berlin or West Germany aus.2 The Cuban ambassador in Berlin gave the Stasi or employees of the Interior several Cuban Merit for their cooperation . Erich Mielke, a close friend of the current Cuban leaders Raul Castro, received in 1983 from the hands of the ambassador, a certificate of honor on the occasion of the anniversary of diplomatic relations 20jähringen between the GDR and East German diplomats Kuba.3 Conversely put Cuba in value close relations with the country's security organs. Thus the East German ambassador in Havana 1988, on the occasion of the 39th Anniversary of the founding of the GDR a reception for executives of MININT. Among the guests were Minister Abrantes and the heads of the Enlightenment and the Abwehr.4 found until the late seventies in East Berlin held many discussions between the liaison officer of the MININT and his East German partners in the Cuban Embassy. Later, we preferred objects of the conspiracy Ministry.

intensively How different the Cuban secret police operational tasks in the GDR became aware, shows a closer examination of the Role of the former embassy secretary

messages is a common practice. Roque Ramirez. Colonel Roque was officially in the capacity of Secretary act unofficially as an experienced intelligence but connecting point to the Stasi. Together with the Stasi, he was responsible for the protection and "modification" of those involved in DDR Cubans. He was also responsible for the expansion of the informal network among the Cubans who in the GDR studied or worked. Colonel Roque also coordinates the supply of equipment and materials between the secret police of East Germany and Cuba. An employee of the MININT, who was officially placed under him and was the vice consul, was responsible for the implementation of defensive work and the control of the Cuban contract workers. He coordinated the collaboration with the investigative body of the Stasi and the prosecutor. An important role of "Vice-Consul" was the "operative penetration" of the connections between GDR or FRG citizens and the Cuban workers. Although he was entitled in the GDR not to
arrests, searches or interviews, could But the Cuban
contract workers in the premises of the Embassy summons and ask there. Even in the districts of the GDR of MININT officers were employed on diplomatic passports, in close contact with the operative group in Berlin and with the district administration of the Stasi in conversation.
Roques activities were made public, as the West German terrorist Johannes Weinrich, who was part of the Carlos group, was found in 2003 in court. From two letters Roques, which were sent to the Stasi, it emerged that he had in the spring of 1984, Weinrich and the member of the Revolutionary Cells (RZ) Gerd Albartus known as "Kai" taken. The two terrorists asked Roque for support and gave him to realize that they were responsible for the 1983
bomb attacks in Marseille. As Roque in 2003 for a survey by the Berlin court was not available, was the former head of X (International Relations) of the Ministry for State Security, Major General Dam, asked about the relationship. He acknowledged that Roque had been a member of the Cuban secret service. Roque went back to Havana in 1986 and came as a department manager at the radio intelligence

The experience of the Stasi MININT Connection "to play today in the training and qualification of Cuban agents and spies a role. The old experience potential is still valid for the following areas:

- combat and prevent espionage,
- Assurance of security clearance,
- Security in the legal centers,

were particularly important and of course the knowledge of the Stasi on BND.6 The current educational activities of Cuban diplomats in the enemy country USA is based on information from informers and spies and the contacts with their western and eastern counterparts. Until the arrest of Ana Belen Montes, a Cuban Topagentin in the Pentagon, which was uncovered in 2001, had eighteen Cuban diplomat under suspicion of espionage, the U.S. verlassen.7 Less well known is the case of double agents Francisco Avila, who unmasked in 1992
itself. Avila was not only military leader of Alpha 66, an anti-Castro fighter group, but also an agent of the Dirección de Intelligencia, the Cuban intelligence. Same time, he probably gave valuable Information to the FBI or the CIA. Avila's last mission was to expose the Cuban diplomats and agents Carlos Collazo in New York during the transfer of information. The conversation was secretly filmed. This was also confirmed that participated in assassinations and bombings in Cuba were

Author's note:
In the eighties I worked for the branch of the Cuban company in Cubatecnica Karl-Marx-Stadt/Chemnitz as a translator. Politically and legally, I was in this role reports directly to the embassy. I was also responsible for the training of Cuban contract workers and compliance with the intergovernmental agreement between East Germany and Cuba in
use companies where I worked as a translator. From 1985 I was part of a working group of the representative of the Cuban Embassy at the company Cubatecnica and the Ministry of Interior (MININT) that very often I was his interpreter. Because the Cuban secret police wanted to help not only as interpreters but also as a spy against other Cubans, I began to distance myself.
The Commissioner of the MININT in Karl-Marx-Stadt/Chemnitz wanted 1987 have information about a musician who has performed in the GDR. The operational group of the MININT in Berlin had received the information that these musicians wanted to request the return to Cuba in Canada for asylum. I should spy on him. I decided to help the musicians, and informed him that the Seguridad del Estado had asked me to bespitzeln.Um him to help him to escape, I took on call with the U.S. Embassy in East Berlin
contact. The depth in the U.S. embassy phone calls but were intercepted by the Stasi. The MININT-people in the Cuban Embassy were able to identify my voice. I was arrested and in detention center of the Stasi in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen brought. There I experienced a week of interrogation to interrogation. On 18 March 1987 I was deported to Cuba and first heard further. On release from prison followed
decomposition measures, exit, and prohibition. After five years ban on leaving I was leaving Cuba in 1992 and since then lived in Berlin as a freelance journalist. Since 2002, I am also active in the Cuban opposition movement and hold regular talks on human rights violations in Cuba and the Cuban secret police to cooperate with the Stasi. In February 2000 I was the 51th Criminal Chamber of the Landgericht Berlin criminally rehabilitated and the decision of the District Court of Berlin-Mitte explained from March 1987 at the request of the Stasi
for rule of law unconstitutional and repealed because they served the political persecution.
